ANSA e.V., the African Network for Students and Alumni, unites scholarship recipients and alumni of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) who have either undertaken a research or study stay in an African country or who originate from an African country and are currently - or have previously been - engaged in research or studies in Germany. Through intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange, ANSA e.V. seeks to foster international relations, education, and science, positioning itself in particular as a bridge-builder between African and German stakeholders. Our annual conferences therefore play a central role in both realizing and advancing this mission

Upon my first encounter with ANSA, I was particularly struck by the openness, the friendliness, and the way everyone engaged with me as an equal, no matter my academic standing or background knowledge
ANSA is my way to connect and engage with open minded people as well as to learn new perspectives on various topics
ANSA offers me a special space for interaction between people from different African countries and Germany on the common basis of a DAAD-funded study visit to our respective neighboring continents. For me, the focus on what we have in common creates a basis for personal exchange and lasting relationships that allows our ethnic and cultural group affiliations to take second place
Established in 1925, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD: Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst e.V.) is the world‘s largest funding organization for the international exchange of students and scholars. Guided by it‘s motto, „Change through Exchange,“ DAAD awards scholaships, funds research stays, and supports collaborative academic projects to foster intercultural understanding and global partnerships. Through programs spanning undergraduates, postgraduates, and researchers, DAAD empowers individuals to build networks across borders and contribute to sustainable development worldwide. As the African Network for Students and Alumni, ANSA e.V. advances DAAD‘s mission by bringing together current and former DAAD scholars who have studied or conducted research in Africa, organizing conferences, workshops, and working groups to sustain intercultural dialogue and professional collaboration. Supported by funding from DAAD, ANSA e.V. expands alumni engagement, hosts events, and amplifies the long-term impact of „Change through Exchange.“
